Jenille "Jeni" Lopez

Instructional Design Specialist

FIU Online | Learning Design Innovation Team

A Bit About Me

As many Instructional Designers may tell you, "I didn't always want to be an ID - I fell into it". I really did! I always had a passion for learning and teaching - I often joke that if I could be a professional student, I would.

While pursing my undergraduate degree - in a completely separate field I might add - I fell in love with the strategies and psychology behind learning science while working as Online Support. I would often work the late-night shits when instructors would contact us asking for technical assistance in our Learning Management System (LMS), and those requests would often times lead to question regarding pedagogical best practices and recommendations. In this position, I wasn't trained as an ID, but I did know where they housed all of their training materials! I made sure I was able to assist our faculty and students to the best of my ability with the resources provided.

My resourcefulness, on-the-fly problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and quiet honestly, my need to be a know-it-all, ultimately led me to becoming an Instructional Designer. I enjoy challenges and problem-solving so much that I have made it my goal to seek opportunities which push me out of my comfort zone, because without discomfort and challenges, there is no growth. Don't believe me? Take a look at the rest of my portfolio! I never through I would get over my performance anxiety - and now I'm an internet talk-show host!
